A New Chapter

Before Christmas, I went to Tennessee for a cousin’s family trip. All the cousins decided to go somewhere none of us have been to. The trip was marvelous, we enjoyed hiking and being outdoors. We stayed in a cabin near Smoky Mountains and that was wonderful. It was like we left the social world behind and just enjoyed each other’s company. Trips like this makes me grateful for the family and friends that I have. Can you go one day without your phone or electronic device? I’m glad that this trip was such a hit that we are planning to do it an annual thing. I wonder what our next location will be.

I am so thankful to be part of a team filled with such strong women. They taught me a lot of about the hospitality industry. These women are caring, kind and smart. It was a pleasure working with them and I could not ask for a better people to learn from. We had a holiday party for the staff and it was fun seeing all the managers serving us. That was a nice surprise! Overall, it was a fun event and I had a good time seeing everyone getting drunk.

The end of my 2013 was filled with relaxation and a small weekend trip. Also, it was hectic and I was so wrapped into it that I neglected to make a post. The only way to end 2013 was to catch a burlesque show called the Slutcracker. I loved that we were able to see a show filled with laughter and a sense of originality. One aspect that I like to stress about the show was that they were comfortable in their own skin. This show was not a way to portray the perfect skinny body. Instead, many of the actors and actresses did not have what people consider the “perfect” body or the norm. I like that a lot, we need to promote more self-love and self acceptance in this society.

Instead of having many new years resolution, I would like to just be better than I was last year. Everyone is already saying that they feel 2014 seems a lot better than 2013. I just know that 2014 will be the year to take charge and jump at any opportunity that head my way. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions?

Mini Resemblance

Do you have a little sister/niece/nephew/brother that you see yourself in them? Sometimes I think that Jasmine is my mini version. I used to be exactly like her when I was little. Instead of helping my mom clean when I was younger, I would run outside to play hopscotch or go upstairs to my neighbor’s house and play. You just want to be a kid and each day is a brand new adventure. She is just as adventurous as I am, I remembered when she was two. This little girl was the queen of climbing, she would climb everywhere high and low. I love that my niece love the outdoors more than playing her video games.

For as long as I could remember, I dived right into arts and crafts, painting, drawing and making things. My drawings started off as stick figures, square heads and now they look more realistic. As for Jasmine, she is so creative, you have no idea! She would make the coolest things, like cutting out rainbows and placing a triangle on the bottom of it. It just looks right. Somehow I would think her ideas are so mature that it scares me. I love the fact that no one taught her how to make certain things and she ends up creating it on her own. Sometimes her creativity caused her to get in trouble because she would leave trails of paper cutting everywhere. I remember being young and not care like that, but now as we grow older, we know better.

I feel like I am her second mother sometimes; babysitting, feeding, and taking her places An interesting fact: I named her. You know those books with baby names, somehow I stumbled upon names that begins with J and Jasmine caught my eye. The reason? Maybe because I love Jasmine in Aladdin or because the smell of Jasmine is lovely. Or because whoever is named Jasmine have a  strong, determined nature in them. Jasmine definitely have a strong natured in her. Now that she is six, she say the most adorable things, “I can’t wait to get older (referring to being seven), I will have long hair just like you.” This little girl really is me! I remember being young and hoping my mom would let me have long hair like my sisters. Instead I get the typical bowl haircut with the bangs.   Or sometimes she would say things similar to this, “Grandpa can’t go to the zoo with us because he doesn’t have enough monies.”

I just hope that she enjoys being young than wishing to grow up. We long to be young again, I think that is one of many things children tend to forget and take for granted.

Summer Days Running Low

I am not sure when I will get more days like these past several weekends. Time tends to drift by without any notice. I probably said this already, but I cannot stress it enough. Try to spend as much time with family and friends before you cannot anymore.

Empire of the Sun again, I think I am quite lucky to see them up close for the second time! They are truly one of the best performers I have seen.

I think once you had attended one music festival, you get addicted and try to attend as much as you can. I love that this year Boston Calling music selections varied from indie/alternative/rap/edm. When the music genres varies like this, it is much more interesting to go and enjoy to because you get more than one selection.

Sun-kissed

We are blessed with a not just a beautiful day but a perfect day! The humidity levels are not suffocating, surprisingly, (that was a mouthful) and the fact that it did not rain either was a blessing. We do not get nice days like these often, so we have to take advantage of it. Even though I was stuck inside all day at my CC (community college). I reminded myself that it will still be beautiful out when I get out of classes. People tend to be grumpy and less forgiving due to a stressful work week or day at school. Therefore, I like to think that the weather can control our emotions. It can be an add-on to the heavy load or completely turn it around. Everyone deserves one less stressors in their day.

“Watch and Follow” – How do you commute to work or college or anywhere? We do not have the best public transportation here, but I am not complaining (only when the train breaks down causing me to be late). But in order to get to my CC everyday, I get a ride to the train station and from there I have to switch one more time to a different train. What I love about Boston is that everywhere is easily accessible. You can basically take the train anywhere!

“Watch and Follow” – What is home to you?

Seeing my dad’s homemade flower gate; his colorful garden which varies from herbs, squashes, vegetables and flowers. That’s part of what I think home is to me, seeing something familiar. It is comforting knowing that you have this place to go back to if all fails.

Herzschmerz

Many things occurred for a reason, you are still part of the family. It is difficult to meet such genuine people and you are exactly that.

That saying, “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” If only everyone think like that, I barely talk about it to anyone because everyone have their own problems. There is no need to add more onto their plate. Instead, I hope and wish that one day we will be able to get through this obstacle and be happy again. It saddens me that we are going through this. Not only that but seeing the true characters of some people is horrifying.
